MasterCard Antitrust Claims Should Stay: Judge

Law360, New York (January 14, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A magistrate judge in the ongoing case over MasterCard Inc.'s interchange fees has strongly urged the court to deny the company's request to dismiss monopolization claims.

Mastercard and Visa USA Inc. are accused of engaging in price-fixing when setting up interchange fees, a payment processed through a merchant's bank and a consumer's credit card bank whenever the consumer pays with a credit card.

The fees for the transactions are passed onto merchants.
