Toshiba Takes On U.S. Competitor Over DVD Patents

Law360, New York (November 3, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- Japan’s Toshiba Corp. has forced a showdown with a U.S. entertainment technology company, pitting its busy DVD licensing cooperative against a smaller competitor that’s already under threat from a third party.

Toshiba’s federal suit accuses California-based Cyberhome Entertainment Inc. of infringing patents with three of its products, including the CH-DVD 300 player. The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.

Toshiba is seeking a permanent injunction against the products, as well as a trebling of damages for alleged willful infringement....
