NJ Blocked From Seizing $140M In Housing Funds

Law360, New York (May 14, 2013, 2:33 PM ET) -- A New Jersey appeals court on Monday blocked the state from taking some $140 million from municipal affordable housing trust funds after fair housing advocates argued the measure would siphon money from the state’s low-income and disabled residents and Hurricane Sandy victims.

The Appellate Division’s injunction blocks a May 1 resolution from the state’s Council on Affordable Housing, which ordered towns that haven’t spent or earmarked their affordable housing funds to turn over the money by May 22. Oral arguments in the case will be heard...
