DOD Unveils Proposed Counterfeit Electronics Regulation

Law360, New York (May 15, 2013, 6:04 PM EDT) -- The Department of Defense will publish a long-awaited regulation on the steps that contractors must take to prevent counterfeit electronics from making their way into defense technology on Thursday, giving more details on a proposed rule that will have a serious impact on many DOD suppliers.

Counterfeits are at higher risk of failure, espionage and sabotage, but contractors have worried the regulation would require very expensive testing and vetting procedures that will force some companies out of the DOD supply chain entirely. The rules could have...
