Deals Rumor Mill: Marine Harvest, Actavis, Elliott Management

By Karlee Weinmann (May 16, 2013, 2:03 PM EDT) -- Norwegian fish farmer Marine Harvest ASA could hike up its $1.7 billion buyout bid for smaller rival Cermaq ASA if the target agrees to abandon plans for its own acquisition of a Peruvian fish meal manufacturer, Marine Harvest Chairman Ole-Eirik Leroey told local newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv on Thursday. Under the terms of Marine Harvest's proposal, Cermaq would have to abandon an already-approved $730 million offer to take over Copeinca ASA. Earlier, the Norwegian government — which holds a commanding 43.5 percent Cermaq stake — rejected that prospect, leaving it up to Marine Harvest to sell other minority investors on its plan....
