HP Drops One Patent Claim But Dispute Continues

Law360, New York (January 16, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Hewlett-Packard Co. has buried its claims over one patent in a dispute against video conference system provider Tandberg Data Corp., but the wrangle continues over technology for magnetic tapes used to back up computer data.

Judge Lewis Babcock of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado on Monday approved the proposed deal between Hewlett-Packard and Tandberg, in which Hewlett-Packard agreed to dismiss with prejudice its counterclaim over U.S. Patent Number 6,246,642.

An attorney for Hewlett-Packard declined to comment on the settlement.
