Bill Would Publicize Patent Ownership To Bust Trolls

Law360, New York (May 20, 2013, 9:39 PM EDT) -- The ownership of patents would be a matter of public record under legislation introduced in Congress on Thursday that was quickly hailed by technology companies as an ideal way to crack down on the use of shell companies by so-called patent trolls.

Recording ownership information about patents at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is currently voluntary, but the End Anonymous Patents Act, H.R. 2024, would require anyone who applies for or acquires a patent to make that information publicly available.
