FERC Nixes Permit For Tidal Energy Project On NJ River

Law360, New York (May 22, 2013, 10:34 PM EDT) -- The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Monday denied a preliminary permit for a tidal energy project proposed for New Jersey’s Manasquan River, after ruling the applicant, Natural Currents Energy Services LLC, had failed to follow regulatory guidelines in its exploration of a prior, nearly identical project.

An order signed by FERC’s director of hydropower licensing denied Natural Currents a preliminary permit to research the feasibility of Manasquan Tidal Energy Project No. 13247, which would generate between 150 and 300 megawatt hours per year, according to estimates....
