Ireland To Introduce World's 2nd Plain-Pack Tobacco Law

Law360, New York (May 29, 2013, 3:45 PM EDT) -- Ireland will become the second country in the world to implement legislation requiring all local or imported tobacco products sold in the country to use plain packaging, following an Australian law passed in 2011, it announced Tuesday.

According to Health Minister James Reilly, Ireland’s government had given him approval to begin the legislative process to require all tobacco products sold in Ireland to be sold in plain, standardized packaging, with the legislation expected to go into effect early next year.
