New Bill Would Widen 'Microentity' Patent App Discount

Law360, New York (June 7, 2013, 4:16 PM EDT) -- A bill introduced in Congress on Tuesday would allow more companies and individuals to qualify as "microentities" under patent law, giving them a 75 percent discount on U.S. Patent and Trademark Office fees.

The Promoting Startup Innovation Act, H.R. 2236, introduced by Rep. Steve Chabot, R-Ohio, would loosen the requirements for qualifying for the discount and require the USPTO to rule on requests for microentity status within 45 days.
