Mandate To Destroy Knockoff Products Heads For EU Vote

Law360, New York (June 10, 2013, 8:03 PM EDT) -- The European Parliament will vote Tuesday on new rules that mandate the destruction of illegal and dangerous products entering or being shipped across the European Union in order to help customs authorities enforce intellectual property rights.

The parliament said it was taking up the issue because pirated and counterfeit products cost European businesses €250 billion ($331 billion) a year and some posed a risk to health and safety.
