Nearly Half Of BigLaw Firms Slashed Atty Headcount In 2012

Law360, New York (June 11, 2013, 3:32 PM EDT) -- Attorney head count in the nation's biggest law firms made a nearly imperceptible gain last year, according to survey data released Monday, reflecting what experts called a highly conservative mindset among industry leaders.

Growth at the biggest 350 firms ticked up just 1.1 percent in 2012 from the previous year, according to a survey by The National Law Journal, a step down from the 1.7 percent rise from 2011. The surveyed firms reported 141,056 employed lawyers in 2012, barely topping the total of 139,551 from 2011. ...
