Nevada Gov. Rejects Raw Milk Bill Over Safety Concerns

Law360, New York (June 10, 2013, 6:09 PM EDT) -- Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval vetoed a bill on Thursday that would allow raw milk approved by one county to be sold statewide, saying the measure did not fully address concerns about the product's consumer safety risks.

Proponents of raw, or unpasteurized, milk claim it is more nutritious than its processed counterpart, but the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found that raw milk is 150 times more likely to cause foodborne illness such as salmonella poisoning.
