Calif. Hits Gold Mine Operators With Record $11M Fine

Law360, Chicago (June 14, 2013, 8:16 PM EDT) -- California mining regulators on Thursday slapped the owners of a Sacramento-area gold mine with an unprecedented $11 million fine after they allegedly flouted state and local mining laws for years.

The State Mining and Geology Board voted unanimously to levy the maximum penalty against Big Cut Mine operators Joseph and Yvette Hardesty, Rick Churches and Dan Tankersley, according to the board’s executive officer, Stephen M. Testa.
