NJ Assembly Passes Equal Pay Bills Felled By Christie Veto

Law360, New York (June 20, 2013, 8:25 PM EDT) -- The New Jersey Assembly on Thursday approved two bills aimed at eliminating gender-based pay disparities by imposing reporting requirements on state contractors and easing employees' ability to file pay discrimination claims despite arguments that the legislation could cause disruptive litigation and infringe privacy.

A4044, known as the Wage Transparency Act, passed with 45 Assembly members voting in favor, 26 dissenting and two abstaining. The Assembly also cleared A4124, known as the Unfair Wage Recovery Act, with 50 members approving, 23 voting no and three abstaining....
