No Punitive Damages In Jacoby & Meyers Libel Case

Law360, New York (June 25, 2013, 6:01 PM EDT) -- A former Jacoby & Meyers LLP attorney can't pursue punitive damages against his former law firm over allegations they'd lied to clients that he'd filed for bankruptcy because there wasn't enough evidence that it was done maliciously, a New York state judge ruled Monday.

Judge Barbara Jaffe said that former Jacoby & Meyers attorney Michael Flomenhaft can't pursue punitive damages because he hadn't shown that Jacoby & Meyers and some of its attorneys had slandered and libeled Flomenhaft only because they wanted to hurt him....
