Law360, New York (July 03, 2013, 12:18 PM ET) -- Where applicable, statutes of repose are a powerful tool for defendants because they impose an absolute bar to lawsuits arising from claims of defective and unsafe products and real-property improvements. As a result, statutes of repose provide a highly useful protection for a variety of potential defendants, whose professions relate to enhancing and developing real property, including manufacturers of certain products, architects, professional engineers and contractors, among others.
