Chicago Federal Court Gets 1st Hispanic Chief Judge

Law360, New York (July 2, 2013, 3:08 PM EDT) -- Judge Ruben Castillo succeeded Chief Judge James F. Holderman as chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on Monday, making him the first Latino to hold the top federal judicial post in the district.

Under Illinois law, Chief Judge Castillo’s succession automatically took effect at midnight Monday after former Chief Judge Holderman’s seven-year term expired, the court said in a statement.
