China Bears Burden Of Stopping IP Theft, Panel Hears

Law360, New York (July 9, 2013, 1:59 PM EDT) -- One of the authors of a major recent study on Chinese intellectual property theft told a congressional hearing on foreign cybertheft on Tuesday that real change can only come from the groups within China pushing the country to stop stealing trade secrets.

Testifying before a subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, former Sen. Slade Gorton also urged other shorter term measures like targeted sanctions, but said a purely defensive approach would merely force Chinese IP abusers to alter their tactics.
