'Free To Roam' Chicken Claims Misleading, Aussie Court Rules

Law360, New York (July 09, 2013, 2:48 PM ET) -- A Federal Court of Australia judge on Monday found chicken product makers Baiada Poultry Pty. Ltd. and Bartter Enterprises Pty. Ltd. engaged in false, misleading and deceptive conduct by advertising that their chickens were “free to roam” in large barns.

The Australian Consumer and Competition Commission had sued Baiada, which owns Bartter, in 2011 over the advertisements, alleging consumers were being misled by the companies’ assertions.
