Hospitals Fire Back In Defense Of 340B Drug Discounts

Law360, New York (July 10, 2013, 5:19 PM EDT) -- Hospitals serving low-income patients launched a counteroffensive Tuesday against suggestions they are abusing a massive drug-discount program to pad their bottom lines, calling critics mistaken about the letter and intent of the so-called 340B law.

The report from Safety Net Hospitals for Pharmaceutical Access, a coalition with more than 1,000 members, used strong language to slam "the world's most profitable drug companies," which under 340B must provide reduced-cost medicines to health care providers in order to have their products covered by Medicaid.
