Smithfield Foods Gets OK For RICO Suit V. Union

Law360, New York (January 30, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Smithfield Foods Inc. got the OK from a federal judge Tuesday to pursue a racketeering lawsuit against a union that has attempted for years to organize workers at the company's North Carolina hog slaughterhouse.

Judge Robert E. Payne of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia rejected a motion by the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union to dismiss the suit, clearing the way for it to move forward.
