Ericsson Slapped With $43M In Damages In Chip Dispute

Law360, New York (November 22, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- Chip maker Atmel Corp. has been awarded $43.1 million in damages in a patent arbitration with Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson related to its AVR microcontroller technology.

The International Centre for Dispute Resolution found Ericsson and its subsidiary Ericsson Mobile Platform liable for numerous breaches of contract and misappropriation of trade secrets, Atmel said in a press release.

Under the terms of the award, Ericsson will be required to make payment within 30 days, according to Atmel.
