House Approves Farm Bill Minus Food-Stamp Amendment

Law360, Los Angeles (July 11, 2013, 4:34 PM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday passed its version of a five-year, $940 billion farm bill by a 216-208 vote after splitting apart funding for food stamps and drawing no support from Democrats.

The White House has promised a veto of the House’s new version of the bill, called the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013. The bill doesn’t include funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which offers nutrition aid to millions of low-income individuals.
