Lawmakers Seething Over DOD's Russian Helicopter Purchases

Law360, New York (July 12, 2013, 7:20 PM EDT) -- Lawmakers from the House and Senate sharply criticized the U.S. Department of Defense on Thursday for disobeying congressional demands to stop purchasing helicopters from the Russia-owned arms exporter that supplies weapons to the Syrian government.

Congress, by large and bipartisan majority, has opposed the DOD’s purchase from Rosoboronexport, which has supplied arms to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, and prohibited the DOD from awarding further contracts to Rosoboronexport in the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act.
