Chinese Producer Of Abortion Pill Under Investigation

Law360, New York (January 31, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Chinese pharmaceutical giant is being questioned over the safety of controversial abortion pill RU-486, which it supplies to the United States, after the contamination of a different drug injured scores of cancer patients in China.

An estimated 200 Chinese cancer patients developed serious side effects, including paralysis, after using a tainted leukemia drug. The drugs were produced by manufacturer Shanghai Hualian, a subsidiary of Shanghai Pharmaceutical Group.
