Budget Cuts Hurting Trade Efforts, USTR Warns

Law360, New York (July 18, 2013, 12:13 PM EDT) -- U.S. Trade Representative Mike Froman warned Congress on Thursday that recent budget cuts to his agency were hampering the effort to hash out trade agreements with the European Union and with a slew of Pacific countries.

Froman told the House Ways and Means Committee that his office was hard at work negotiating the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership — as well as enforcing global rules already in place — but that across-the-board cuts were squeezing the agency.
