EU Hesitates Over Google-DoubleClick Merger

Law360, New York (January 31, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Commission's competition agency has drafted a statement of objection to Google Inc.'s planned acquisition of DoubleClick Inc., but it hasn't decided whether to push the investigation forward by presenting the statement to Google, a research firm said Thursday.

A statement of objection is one necessary step in the European merger review process on the way to blocking, or imposing conditions on, a merger. Analysts at Stifel Nicolaus, the firm that issued the statement, said that they doubted the commission would block the merger....
