USPTO Patent Delays At Record High: Internal Report

Law360, New York (November 23, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- With nearly one million patent applications pending at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the agency appears unable to keep up with steadily increasing demand and patent complexity, causing its leaders to concede some long-term goals may have been too ambitious.

In the USPTO’s internal report for fiscal year 2005, the agency confirms it issued a record number of patents in 2005, but the trend clearly shows pendency times outpace any increase in issued patents or patent applications.
