Pfizer Resolves 700 Suits In Chantix Depression MDL

Law360, New York (July 19, 2013, 3:24 PM EDT) -- Pfizer Inc. on Thursday settled nearly 700 lawsuits in multidistrict litigation in Alabama claiming the drugmaker should have known the smoking cessation drug Chantix was linked to depression and suicidal behavior.

Pfizer and plaintiffs represented by the South Carolina firm Richardson Patrick Westbrook & Brickman LLC filed an omnibus stipulation of dismissal with the court. The drugmaker said in a securities filing in May that it had reached settlements or settlement agreements-in-principle for “virtually all” Chantix claims in the U.S., including the MDL.
