Anthem Exits Calif. Small-Business Health Plan Exchange

Law360, New York (July 22, 2013, 3:20 PM ET) -- Anthem Blue Cross, a unit of health insurance company Wellpoint Inc., has withdrawn from California’s new public insurance market for small businesses, California’s insurance commissioner said Friday.

Anthem, one of the largest insurers in the state, will offer insurance in a small group market outside California’s new Small Business Health Options Program exchange, also known as SHOP. The state created the exchange as part of the state’s implementation of the Affordable Care Act, according to Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones.
