EU Wants To Step Up Defense Industry's Competitive Edge

Law360, New York (July 24, 2013, 2:03 PM EDT) -- The European Commission wants to amp up competition in the European defense industry by freeing up funding for new technology and streamlining member states' contract standards, according to a plan submitted to the European Parliament on Wednesday.

The so-called action plan has evolved out of the commission's efforts to overhaul procurement practices and cut down on duplicate research— and therefore unnecessary spending — in the European Union's 28 member states.
