Texas Hospital Group Pays $8M To Settle Medicare FCA Suit

Law360, New York (July 26, 2013, 7:52 PM ET) -- Dubuis Health System Inc. and one of its hospitals have agreed to an $8 million settlement to end a whistleblower’s suit in Texas federal court accusing them of submitting false claims to Medicare, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Friday.

According to the DOJ, the deal resolves claims that between 2003 and 2009, the hospital system and Southern Crescent Hospital for Specialty Care Inc. knowingly kept patients hospitalized for longer than medically necessary, enabling them to draw unwarranted extra Medicare payments, in violation of the False...
