Colombia Probing Surge In Steel Wire Imports, WTO Says

Law360, New York (July 31, 2013, 1:46 PM EDT) -- Colombia is investigating claims that its domestic steel manufacturing industry is being overwhelmed by a surge in steel wire imports, the World Trade Organization said Tuesday.

The country notified the WTO earlier this month that it has initiated a so-called safeguard investigation on behalf of Colombian steelmaker Acerías Páz del Río S.A. Under WTO rules, a member can temporarily restrict foreign imports of a particular product if they present evidence showing increased product imports are harming or threatening to harm the country's domestic industry.
