Pfizer Wins Lipitor Patent Challenge

Law360, New York (November 28, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a significant victory for Pfizer, Inc., the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is planning to issue a re-examination certificate for a contested patent for its best-selling drug, the $9.2 billion cholesterol fighter Lipitor.

Last week, the USPTO examiner issued a Notice of Intent to Issue Ex Parte Re-Examination Certificate. Included in the allowed claims are 21 of the original claims, 13 amended claims and 73 newly presented claims, Frost Brown Todd LLC patent attorney Stephen R.
