European Steel Imports Harming US Industry, USTR Told

Law360, New York (August 2, 2013, 3:59 PM EDT) -- A group of steel manufacturers on Thursday urged the U.S. trade representative to protect American steel producers by taking action to stanch a recent influx of European imports.

The Steel Manufacturers Association, a trade group representing steel companies like ArcelorMittal and Nucor Corp., said in a letter to USTR Mike Froman that excess supply has led to a “troubling amount of steel imports,” particularly from Europe, that are distorting the market.
