NEC Battles For Jurisdiction In Drawn-Out Chip Suit

Law360, New York (November 30, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- Japanese consumer electronics firm NEC Corp. is striking back at a U.S. patent holding firm this week with a countersuit over microprocessor technology, seeking to yank litigation out of plaintiff-friendly Eastern Texas and back to California where it started.

NEC sued California-based Technology Properties Ltd. (TPL) in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, seeking declaratory judgment of non-infringement of TPL’s patents. TPL has already taken on the industry with several patents it fought to acquire from another IP holding firm.
