CMS Weighs Disclosure Of Physician Payment Data

Law360, New York (August 7, 2013, 4:44 PM EDT) -- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced Tuesday that a recent court ruling will likely require it to release data identifying doctors in private practice and the compensation they receive from the federal government, but said it wants input on privacy concerns before proceeding.

In a request for comment, regulators cited a May 31 decision in which a Florida federal court lifted a decades-old injunction on disclosure of such information after determining the policy was “inequitable and detrimental to the public interest.” While exemptions still...
