New Mobile Ad Guides To Stave Off Formal Regulation

Law360, New York (August 15, 2013, 8:26 PM EDT) -- A pair of self-regulatory organizations recently established notice and choice obligations for advertisers that gather information to target and track mobile device users, which attorneys say is likely to quash calls for formal regulation of apps' data collection practices.

With federal lawmakers and regulators clamoring for stronger privacy protections, the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Network Advertising Initiative on July 24 separately expanded their self-regulatory programs for desktop browsing to cover mobile applications.
