Pa. DEP Axes Emission Plan Exemptions For Fracking Wells

Law360, New York (August 8, 2013, 7:00 PM EDT) -- Pennsylvania environmental regulators on Thursday said operators of unconventional oil and gas wells in the state no longer will be unconditionally exempt from filing air-quality plans for well sites, virtually all of which employ hydraulic fracturing.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection unveiled revised guidance that gives operators the choice between seeking an air quality plan approval from the agency or demonstrating and implementing controls and practices more stringent than federal rules enacted last year.
