BJ's Hit With Class Action In Pa. Over Sales Tax On Coupons

Law360, Philadelphia (August 8, 2013, 5:06 PM EDT) -- BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. was hit with a class action in Pennsylvania state court on Thursday that accuses the retailer of charging and collecting sales tax on the full price of items when customers use discount coupons.

A Pennsylvania couple said the chain of “wholesale club” stores repeatedly hit them with sales tax on the pre-discount price of coupon purchases, when Pennsylvania law says that sales tax can only be applied to the discount price of an item.
