Calif. Shark Fin Ban Will Hurt Merchants, 9th Circ. Hears

Law360, San Francisco (August 14, 2013, 6:56 PM ET) -- San Francisco's Chinatown Neighborhood Association urged the Ninth Circuit on Wednesday to revive its effort to block a California law banning the possession or sale of shark fins, arguing that the lower court was wrong to find the group lacked evidence showing the law would bankrupt merchants.

The association sued the state over the law, which took effect last January, seeking an injunction as well as a ruling from the court finding that the ban unfairly discriminated against Chinese businesses and would severely hurt those businesses. When...
