ACA Push For Cost-Effective Care Spurs $200M Medtronic Buy

Law360, Washington (August 12, 2013, 3:15 PM ET) -- Medical device giant Medtronic Inc. sealed a $200 million deal to acquire Cardiocom and expand its reach into the chronic disease and patient management fields that have been put in the spotlight by the Affordable Care Act, the company said Monday.

The $200 million all-cash deal closed on Monday, according to a company statement, and puts Medtronic in a position to work with hospitals, physicians and insurers to encourage cost-effective care for patients, a key tenet of the health reform law.
