Transocean Drill Patents Invalid: Norwegian Court

Law360, New York (February 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Norwegian court has dismissed claims of patent infringement brought by offshore drilling company Transocean Inc. against its competitor Seadrill Ltd.

The Olso District Court ruled Thursday that Transocean’s patents covering a multi-activity offshore drilling apparatus and its method were invalid, Seadrill said.

Transocean, the world’s largest offshore drilling company, holds similar patents issued by patent authorities around the world, and has previously asserted its United States patents in infringement suits against other competitors in the U.S.
