Airline Merger Fight Set To Become Slugfest

Law360, New York (August 13, 2013, 6:06 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice sued Tuesday to block the $11 billion merger of US Airways Group Inc. and American Airlines Inc., pitting two companies hoping to pull off one last megamerger against dug-in regulators who say airline consolidation has gone far enough.

U.S. Department of Justice antitrust chief Bill Baer says the government, determined to protect consumers' wallets, isn't looking for a settlement. And the two companies say they will vigorously defend a deal they say will give travelers more choice, not less.
