Lawmakers Probe Cos. Behind Lipitor-Touting Doc

Law360, New York (February 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Two Democratic lawmakers are questioning companies that were involved in the production of direct-to-consumer advertising as part of a congressional investigation into Pfizer Inc.'s use of celebrity doctor Robert Jarvik to plug its blockbuster cholesterol drug Lipitor in TV commercials.

Rep. John D. Dingell (D-Mich.), who heads the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), who chairs the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, sent out a slew of letters on Wednesday to the companies expressing concerns that consumers may misinterpret the health claims...
