DOD Will Offer Same-Sex Spouses Benefits By September

Law360, New York (August 14, 2013, 3:35 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of Defense announced Wednesday that it will extend benefits to same-sex spouses of uniformed service members and DOD civilian employees, with coverage beginning in September.

The DOD said it reviewed its policies after the Supreme Court's ruling that found the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional, and will begin providing benefits to same-sex marriage partners Sept. 3.
