USDA To Broker Surplus Sugar Sales To Biofuel Makers

Law360, New York (August 16, 2013, 2:04 PM ET) -- The nation’s first-ever bidding process for excess sugar by ethanol producers is gearing up to launch in the last week of August, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Thursday.

The program, part of the final Feedstock Flexibility Program rule in the 2008 Farm Bill that allows the agency to broker the sale of surplus sugar from sugar processors to biofuel makers, will call for offers from sugar producers on Aug. 21, Kent Politsch, a spokesman for the agency, confirmed to Law360 Friday.
