Citing AmEx, Comcast Seeks Arbitration In Sports TV Suit

Law360, New York (August 20, 2013, 4:21 PM EDT) -- Citing the U.S. Supreme Court's recent American Express ruling, Comcast Corp. asked a New York federal judge Monday to force arbitration in a proposed antitrust class action over the cable giant's regional broadcast arrangements with professional sports leagues.

Comcast said the landmark June ruling in American Express Co. v. Italian Colors Restaurant — which made it tougher to claim class action-waiving arbitration clauses are unconscionable — removed any doubt that the case over the sports broadcasting deals should be handled out of court.
