Patriot Coal, Union Miners' Contract Gets Judge's Approval

Law360, Los Angeles (August 20, 2013, 10:09 PM ET) -- A Missouri bankruptcy judge on Tuesday signed off on a new contract between Patriot Coal Corp. and United Mine Workers of America members that will improve wages and benefits for union workers, according to the company.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Kathy Surratt-States granted Patriot's request to approve the new agreement, which was ratified Friday by UMWA members with a vote of 85 percent in favor, a Patriot representative said. Judge Surratt-States had previously approved substantial cutbacks to the workers' wages and benefits.
